Vice Mayor Sam Kaufman and Mayor Teri Johnston joined with the entire City Commission to commend the city’s first responders for their dedication during the current health emergency.
During the Covid-19 pandemic, the City of Key West has relied upon first responders to protect the well-being of all members of the Key West community,” reads the proclamation. “Members of the Key West Police Department, the Key West Fire Department and Key West Code Compliance Department have provided selfless service in the interests of preserving public health.”

Key Haven here we come!

Everything in Yellow is where we have ridden. We did not ride any of the Navy properties or gated communities. And skipped the roads through shopping centers. Thanks to Laurie McChesney of Preferred Properties for this fabulous map of Key West.

I miss the barbershop colors on the angled pole. That was always cute. Hope they paint them on again.

Had to get a photo of this for my Drama Queen friends.

Cool gate and fence.

Hearts and diamonds....

This old fence and a line of conch shells... ON the last lane we rode.

Blue columns, old house and porch... would make great tables, a bench or a stool?

And this guy - he was so still for a little bit I thought he was a really good statue! But then he moved.

Historic Downtown Key West.

Yep - Marlin gingerbread!

It’s hard to separate Elizabeth Taylor from her personal life - the marriages, the divorces, and the lifestyle - but she was able to achieve all of that because of her lengthy film career.
Taylor even began acting in 1941 but one of her most beloved roles came in 1951 with Giant, a film that sees her acting with James Dean and Rock Hudson. As beloved as the film is she told Rolling Stone that she doesn’t watch her own work but she has fond memories of making the film. Taylor explained: It’s been a long time since I’ve seen Giant. I don’t look at old movies of myself. I don’t even look at new ones of myself. But I loved Jimmy and I loved Rock. And I was the last person Jimmy was with before he drove to his death…But that was a private, personal moment.

Albert Einstein wasn’t the kind of egg head who just liked to pal around with other scientists and talk math all day. He was imaginative, funny, and he thought of himself as an artist so it makes sense that he enjoyed Chaplin’s work.
The two were introduced by Carl Laemmle, the head of Universal Studios, and after a dinner at Chaplin’s the two became close friends. Chaplin and Einstein attended the premiere of City Lights together in 1931 along with Einstein’s wife Elsa.
Supposedly Einstein said that he was envious of Chaplin’s fame because without a word the world understands him, to which Chaplin replied, “But your fame is even greater… the world admires you when nobody understands you.”

During his decade plus reign of terror over Europe Hitler amassed a series of homes and chalets that he used for everything from relaxation to planning, and by the end of World War 2 American and English forces had seized all of homes and hideaways for their own use.
His home in the Obersalzberg of the Bavarian Alps near Berchtesgaden, Bavaria, Germany, was bombed on April 25, 1945, and on May 4 retreating SS troops set fire to the rest of the home. Hours later the U.S. 3rd Infantry Division and the French 2nd Armored Division entered the home through secret tunnels beneath the structure.
Allied troops treated themselves to the surviving alcohol in the home before looting the home, most notably Americans troops made off with a globe designed specifically for Hitler

In 1939 Vivian Leigh was hired to star in Gone with the Wind and even though she was from England she took the part of a Southern Belle that would define the rest of her career.
After arriving in Los Angeles to film the much beloved movie her behavior was seen as manic and it supposedly made her difficult to work with, and she believed that the film would be a total failure.
At the time she was in a clandestine relationship with Laurence Olivier. The two were so certain that Gone With The Wind would be a failure that they were figuring out the next step in her career. Olivier writes: You have got to justify yourself in the next two or 3 films (or even 2 or 3 years) by proving that the presumable failure of Gone W.T.W. was not your fault and you can only do that by being really good in the following parts. To make a success of your career in pictures [is] ESSENTIAL for your self respect, and our ultimate happiness therefore. … If you don't, I am afraid you may become just — well boring.
During World War I Colonel Thomas Edward Lawrence had an extremely unique position in the Middle East. He worked as a British demolition artist working with Arab rebel allies to attack bridges and isolated depots belonging to the Ottoman Empire.
Aside from being the subject of Lawrence Of Arabia, Lawrence was the most prolific demolition expert of the era. He says that he blew up 79 bridges along the railway, destroying bridges so they had to be torn down before they could be reconstructed.
Lawrence did so much damage to the Ottoman railways that many of them are still standing today, the Turkish military just left some of the rubble rather than tear it down. Much of the destroyed railways still stand today.
Taken by silent film star Harold Lloyd in 1952, this saucy photo of Marilyn Monroe was taken for Life Magazine at her apartment. It was the first of many photographic collaborations between the two, and just a year later they worked together on an entire swimsuit spread at Lloyd’s estate, Greenacres.
Monroe liked being around Lloyd because his estate meant that there was a certain isolation that an up and coming star required. According to Lloyd’s daughter, Monroe was the perfect house guest. She explained:
She was my age, or maybe a year or two younger, but we came from very different worlds. She sat down to put on her makeup, and we just started chatting about our lives. She insisted on seeing the baby and talked about how she dreamed of having a child of her own one day.

ANNA SWEET EXHIBITION NOW AT EFFUSION ART GALLERY KW

EFFUSION GALLERY 701 Duval St.
305-735-4345 WWW.EFFUSION.COM

Anna Sweet’s work marries a craftsman’s approach to material with an Art Nouveau influence. Known for her luminous underwater nudes, Sweet portrays the ethereal through harmonious modes of painting and photography. By employing radiant minerals and pigments, the artist reimagines familiar elements of nature and the female form, rendering them brilliantly new to the viewer’s eye.
Raised in Charlotte, North Carolina, above her mother’s art gallery, Sweet and her nine siblings were immersed in the art world from a young age. Perennially inspired by the light of the sun and the movement of the body, Sweet’s hand evokes the dynamic sensuality of beauty in motion, capturing transient moments of swim or dance.
Revealing the sensuality and elegance of women throughout the most exotic waters of the world. Sweet engages minerals like mica, diamond dust, and glass on the image, Sweet’s mixed-medium approach offers an otherworldly experience. Sweet’s work mimics elements of her shooting environments and creates “effects like the glisten that occurs when the sun kisses the sea.” The photographic images and encased materials coalesce into a stunning, seemingly three dimensional representation of the subject. The subjects in this series are radiant displays of female beauty.

Effusion Gallery is happy to offer two unique collections from artist Anna Sweet.

Anna's 'Babes' collection feature underwater photographs that reveal the sensuality and elegance of women throughout the most exotic waters of the world. All pieces are limited edition, available in multiple sizes and are enhanced with mineral and resin elements.

Inspired by real life beaches, her 'Waves' collection feature several mediums that come together creating an almost photorealistic view of the sea from above. Each piece is made by hand, customizable and one of a kind.

"Elizabeth". The Only Moment We Have Is Now by Anna Sweet.
Edition of 50 // 40x60 inches // $6,910. Dye sublimation print overlaid with resin, minerals, and diamond dust.

"Eve". To Live, To Breathe by Anna Sweet. Edition of 50 // 30x45 inches // $4,500. Metallic C Print mounted to aluminum and overlaid with UV Resin, minerals, and diamond dust.
