WORLD AIDS DAY DECEMBER 1, 2021.Key West Every Year on Dec. 1 will Have 'AIDS WALK" to the Aids Pier. https://keywestaidsmemorial.org/about/#world-aids-day-2021

For 24 years, the Friends of the AIDS Memorial has conducted a service on World AIDS Day, December 1. This consisted of a gathering of friends and loved ones at sunset to hear a reading of the names of all who were inscribed in the memorial, after a candlelight vigil to the site. The Poet Laureate of Key West would also read a poem written that year. Friends, family and loved ones would call out the names of those that had left us in previous years and place flowers at their names.

We know good government is important to you.

We know quality-of-life issues like the environment, public health, education, and the national, state, and local economies as well as the policies and who sets them are important to you.

We know because you have supported Hometown! in the past, helping us present (or were a candidate!) at our non-partisan in-person and live-stream candidate events, forums, debates and online Election Guide. These events are free to the voters and candidates; they are not free for us. We pay for the venues, sound, streaming and recording. We pay for the Internet presence that allows us to communicate with you and to be your election resource.

Ed, please help promote good government again by including Hometown! in your end-of-year giving plan. It is a gift with long-lasting impact.

You can do that by renewing your membership HERE.

Believe it or not, the 2022 election year has begun. Candidates are filing and planning their campaigns; others are deciding to run or not. Our first signature event, Call for Candidates is on the books for Monday, February 7, 2022 – just 5 weeks after the holidays. Please renew your membership so we can continue to provide you, and all the voters of Key West and Monroe County, the opportunity to meet the candidates, hear their ideas and listen to them debate - in nonpartisan settings.

Thank you in advance for your support of Hometown! and Good Government; it's a gift with lasting impact on our future.

We Feature a Different Artisans from the Art Guild of the Purple Isles; This Week : LOUISE LINDSAY.

Louise Lindsay Shares with Us :
"Whatever speaks to my heart finds its way into my images. Moments of awe and reverence, breath taking beauty, whimsy and humor, and even disturbing or sad moments have all called me to bear witness and to create art.  My practice of photography is interwoven with my long-term practice of psychology and my experience of practicing and teaching mindfulness and meditation.

Each of my image creations stands alone. I also gather images together.  Sometimes, the resonances among a series of images create an even more powerful larger whole.  These collections become visual poems, 3 of which can be viewed here.
Resounding Joy: Humpback Whales of the Silver Bank 2018 - YouTube grew out of my experiences swimming with humpback whales.
Dancing Beyond Infinity - YouTube contains some recent work created during the pandemic.
Water Meditations: The Colors of the Florida Keys by Louise Lindsay - YouTube includes abstract images of water in the Florida Keys infused by God with all the colors of the rainbow.

CFK students “Dive Against Debris,” remove 120 lbs of trash
Students at The College of the Florida Keys (CFK) took part in a global initiative called Dive Against Debris, led by the Professional Association of Diving Instructors (PADI) Aware Foundation, to remove trash from the ocean. On Thursday, the students boarded the FKCC 2, the College’s catamaran, to travel to their selected clean-up site, the Cayman Salvage Master shipwreck south of Key West. They dove depths of 75- to 90-feet to collect a trash bounty that weighed in at 120 lbs. The marine debris included 17 lbs of monofilament, chains, line, and an anchor.
Prior to diving into their clean-up work, 11 students completed training to earn Dive Against Debris specialty certifications through PADI. They learned how to collect trash as well as data about the clean-up site and the items removed. The research they gathered was entered into PADI’s Dive Against Debris database, which is the world’s largest underwater database with contributors from around the globe who share in the goal of reducing marine debris worldwide.

"I felt what we were doing was important-- like every piece of trash we picked up was making the ocean safer and healthier," said student Nasir Kearse, who is studying Marine Environmental Technology at CFK and is now a Dive Against Debris certified diver.

The College is planning more Dive Against Debris clean-up events in 2022.
