Key West Playbills
is proud to present our advertising opportunities in the Performing Arts and Events guides for the upcoming 2021-22 Season.
All have planned robust "Come Back Seasons".

We are honored to welcome Wesley House Family Services  to our portfolio this year. They will have a book for their long established Valentine’s Day Gala on February 14, 2022, as well as the popular Mayors Ball which has been moved to March.

Two of our venues are offering exceptional advertising opportunities this year. The Waterfront Playhouse will be performing all year long through August 2022 with twelve presentations. Rams Head’s Key West Theatre is also performing through the year and now distributing their Playbill at their Coffee Butler Amphitheater performances. In both cases there will be no increase for the prices of their ads.

The Tennessee Williams Theatre returns offering a season of popular Broadway and music events while the Red Barn Theatre celebrates 42 years of Big Things in a small space!

The Anne McKee Fine Arts Auction, which went digital last Febuary due to the pandemic, returns to a printed program.

The South Florida Symphony is going digital on their programs through a cell phone app which displays their performances and advertisers. They will be able to supply number of “click- throughs” to advertisers. We would be glad to show you how this works in person.

Impromptu Concerts returns to their monthly presentations at St. Paul’s church to celebrate their 50th Season this coming January.

The Marathon Community Theater has reorganized and taken over the operation of the film theater as well as their live stage (located in the same building.) They have an early closing date of August 27, 2021.

The Key West Songwriters Festival (one of top ten such events in the US according to Billboard magazine) returns to their May performances in many Key West clubs.

The Key West Business Guild has enjoyed great support from the community this year for its Pride, Tropical Heat, Womenfest and Headdress Ball Guides, and plans even bigger events next season.

In an abundance of caution and recognizing its health services Mission, the Board of Directors of A.H. of Monroe County, Inc. (AH), effective immediately, have canceled The Royal Campaign of FANTASY FEST 2021.

“Our King and Queen Candidates are, of course, disappointed, but they are supportive of our sensitivity to the recent surge of COVID infection in Monroe County,” stated AH Executive Director/CEO Scott Pridgen.

“The inability to enforce masking and/or vaccination contributed to today’s decision,” added Christopher Elwell, AH Board President. “It is essential that we first protect the well-being of our neighbors, friends and supporters in the Keys, and the Board opted to hope for ‘better days’ for the balance of 2021 and beyond.”

Pridgen emphasized that the Agency will continue its own push and its community collaborations for masking and full vaccination.

“Our staff will continue to pursue every avenue to halt the rate of infection in our County,” Pridgen noted.

Crow Head on North Twillingate Island, Canada
Although technically separated by a narrow saltwater straight called (in local parlance) a 'tickle,' folks around here consider these two islands to be a single place and refer to them as simply northside and southside. The Twillingate Islands sit just off the coast of Newfoundland Island in the easternmost province of Canada. The town of Twillingate's motto, and an unofficial nickname of the islands, is 'The Iceberg Capital of the World.' From the vantage point in our image, and in many other spots on the islands, icebergs may frequently be seen floating by. But 'bergs aren't the only big things in the water—humpback and minke whales breach the cold Atlantic Ocean near the rocky shores of the Twillingate Islands.

PART 1 THE AMERICAN CIVIL WAR 1861-1865 A PHOTOGRAPHIC ESSAY BY PATRICK LOMBARDI UP NEXT BUT FIRST
KEYS TOURISM ADVISORY

News from the Monroe County Tourist Development Council
Aug. 31, 2021  1:45 p.m.

KEY WEST, Florida Keys — Key West’s iconic Fantasy Fest parade and street fair on Duval Street will not take place this year, organizers of the 10-day masking and costuming festival announced Monday night, to protect against the potential spread of COVID-19 and its variants.

They stressed the overall Oct. 22-31 festival and many of its scheduled events will continue, while encouraging attendees to abide by COVID protection protocols.

“Fantasy Fest will look different this year, but it is not canceled,” said festival director Nadene Grossman Orr. “Signature events like the Headdress Ball and Pet Masquerade are still planned, and there will be plenty of individual masquerade parties and other festival favorites to enjoy.”

Grossman Orr said the popular Masquerade March, scheduled Oct. 29, is currently on hold.

Both the highlight parade and street fair typically draw tens of thousands of people to Key West’s historic downtown.

Organizers of the Zombie Bike Ride and the fundraising campaign to elect the festival king and queen canceled their events last weekend, citing COVID concerns.

Fantasy Fest was established in 1979 and has since earned international acclaim for its pageantry, lavish parade floats and themed costume parties.

Grossman Orr said the event schedule at fantasyfest.com is to be updated in coming days and urged people to check it regularly. The festival’s COVID-19 policy can be viewed at fantasyfest.com/covid-19-safety-protocols/

And now we continue with Part 2 and a few more Paintings from Norbert Szilagyi
NORBSART@AOL.COM 305-849-9939

I was born in Hungary in 1955. I spent the winter of 1956 in an Austrian refugee camp after my mother and sister and I quietly slipped out of our village in southern Hungary during the Hungarian revolution. Since then I have served in the U.S. Navy , received a BA degree in Art History from Kent State University, lived in southeast Asia and was ordained as a Tibetan Buddhist Monk.
In September 1988 I started painting a few of the shabby Key West city benches with my bright tropical designs. As I was painting a bench a police officer came up and arrested me for criminal mischief. I had to go to court. It was the start of the “Free Norbert” movement. “Free Norbert” pins and tee shirts lent an air of festivity to the legal proceeding. It was suggested that my punishment should be to paint more benches. I was found not guilty.
I have lived and painted in Key West since 1987. Thanks for looking at my website. Please don’t hesitate to contact me if you have any questions.
EDITOR'S NOTE : "Norbert on his Facebook Pages ; has a few Amazing Images that I need to Share that will follow after his Paintings; First Up is a New Painting "THE WAVE" 18 X 20" .

Norbert Tells us "All paintings are done in acrylic paint. My paintings are on wood panel. I hand cut the panels and the wood frames. The panel is set back from the frame in a three dimensional effect. It gives the painting a very three dimensional look".

You May think that Below may be Cruel Punishment to have this Kitty Bounce Up for JUST 5 Seconds at 25,000 Miles Up. However 97 USAF Enlisted Cats Volunteered for this 1958 Mission and this Lucky Cat "Sergeant I Dare to do Anything" was Awarded the Mission. Unfortunately ; the SGT. had 3 Lives Deducted due to the OVERWHELMING EXCITEMENT & Although in his Bravado had the Biggest Heart of All 97 Volunteers; This Awarded Mission to "Sgt. I Dare to do Anything"; did not account for the reality of his small Kitty Cat Heart. Our Country will forever be in your Debt.
