This Information is a few weeks Old but I will leave it in 1 More Week. Of course things change Rapidly but still there is good info. here.

On February 1, 2021 Public Information Officer for Monroe County Kristen Livengood Writes and send us the following FLORIDA LAUNCHES STATEWIDE PREREGISTRATION SYSTEM FOR COVID-19 VACCINE APPOINTMENTS
MONROE COUNTY, FL – The state announced the launch of a statewide preregistration system to schedule COVID-19 vaccine appointments for individuals 65 and older and frontline healthcare workers. Individuals can preregister for vaccine appointments and be notified when appointments are available in their area by visiting myvaccine.fl.gov.
This website will allow individuals who are eligible to receive the COVID-19 vaccine to be proactively contacted when vaccine appointments are available at state-supported vaccination sites. On the site, residents can select their county and submit their contact information. Once appointments are available, individuals will be contacted by phone call, text or email and will be assisted in scheduling an appointment.
Vaccine supply remains limited and appointments may not be available for several weeks in some counties. Additionally, as part of the statewide registration system, each county has a designated phone number that individuals can call and preregister if they do not have internet access. or for Monroe County residents by calling 866-201-7069 (TTY: 833-990-2908). Whether a resident calls by phone or visits myvaccine.fl.gov, their place in line will be reserved reliably using Sharecare software.
As outlined in Executive Order 20 – 315, individuals who are eligible for the vaccine in Florida are:       Long-term care facility residents and staff;       Persons 65 years of age and older; and        Health care personnel with direct patient contact.
If someone does not meet these eligibility requirements, they will not be able to preregister. Monroe County’s COVID-19 helpline is 833-540-2081.

HELEN, BEN AND COLE HARRISON SEND REGARDS; AND TELL US
Key West's very own Sally Binard debuted her latest show, "None of The Above", at The Studios of Key West this past January. Now, we at Harrison Gallery are beyond pleased to host select pieces from her collection.

A poignant excerpt from Sally's recent interview with Mark Hedden of Keys Weekly:
“I just learned so much from the other artists and saw the power of what they – and now I can include myself – were doing. It was a conversation that was not just about hanging a pretty picture on the wall. And that’s just when I was hooked on art being something bigger than aesthetics and pretty stuff, and about the function that we can play in social change or environmental change.

To view more of Sally's work visit our website or come by Harrison Gallery at 825 White Street.

Okay, we have some photos that will have you doing double-takes on first viewing. Did you know that sexy pop culture icon, Raquel Welch, was considered for the role of Mary Anne on Gilligan's Island? Well, we got her audition photo. What about Michael Meyers enjoying a Dr. Pepper while taking a break from filming the original Halloween movie. Yup, that's in our gallery as well. Also, we have Tom Hanks in a karate outfit fighting Fonzi, Bruce Lee wearing the coolest clothes you've ever seen, Elvis Presley meeting comedian Rodney Dangerfield - as well as dozens and dozens of photos that will blow your mind and provide you with trivia facts to keep everyone in work carpool interested.
Rest your eyes and get ready for 56 groovy photos that will keep you talking. Onward!

Lynda Carter and skateboarders in the "Wonder Woman" episode called 'Skateboard Wiz' in 1978.
Oh wow! Wonder Woman! This was back in the day, when skateboarding was sort of new. So every TV show tried to tie into the craze; even Wonder Woman, who, apparently, needed to wear a helmet while skateboarding. Safety first for Wonder Woman. This episode had an easy premise: While on vacation in California visiting her teenage goddaughter, non-Wonder Woman, Diana Prince, uncovers an illegal gambling operation while watching a local skateboard competition. Transforming into her alter-ego, Wonder Woman, she is able to bring down the organization with the help of a skateboarder who has a photographic memory.
Spoiler Alert: Wonder Woman apprehends the thugs while pursuing them on a skateboard. In the end, everyone goes out for pizza. The end.
People waiting in line to eat at McDonald's for the first time in Moscow, 1980.
Back in the days before the Iron Curtain came down, you had to wait in line for everything in Russia - including a Big Mac and fries. Though the 1980 arrival of McDonald's in the Soviet Union didn't change everything overnight, it was a shape of things to come. A mass of people lined up outside the American fast food chain and paid the equivalent of several days’ wages for Big Macs, shakes, and french fries. Apparently, they wanted to eat like how the Yankee Pig-Dog Oppressors ate. It was estimated that 30,000 people waited for their chance to enter the world of Ronald McDonald. The Moscow establishment was the largest McDonald's in the world and could seat up to 900 people. What a country!
Audition polaroids taken by casting director Mali Finn throughout the 1980s.
Every actor has got to start somewhere. And before they become famous, these movie icons had to go through the audition process. If you haven't been on an acting audition, the protocol is you first sign in and then have a photo taken. In the case of casting director Mali Finn - her collection of polaroids is a regular who's who - of future Hollywood stars. Finn was responsible for casting such stars as Billy Bob Thorton (pictured above in a red shirt and suspenders), Leonardo DiCaprio (in Titanic), and Russell Crowe (L.A. Confidential) in some of the biggest career-making roles. During her stint, Finn cast roughly 90 movies and television series.

Beauty pageant winner, Pam Grier in the 1960s.
Wow! Before she was Foxy Brown, the future legendary blaxplotation actress Pam Grier was a young hot beauty queen. Look at all the trophies she won! Grier was the very first African American woman to star in an action movie. In the 70s, she was dubbed queen of the blaxplotation genre due to her roles in Coffy, Black Mama White Mama, and of course, Foxy Brown.
Always an innovator, Grier continued to break the acting mold with her role in the 1995 Quentin Tarantino’s 1995 classic Jackie Brown, and as Kit Porter in groundbreaking lesbian TV drama The L Word. But before all that - she was a young, hot beauty queen in the 1960s!
An 18 year-old Tony Hawk poses with one of his signature boards in 1986.
Tony Hawk might look like a complete dork in this photo - but the man is pretty amazing. Hawk was one of the original pioneers of the sports who skated alongside the original Dogtown and the Z-Boys crew. Among his many achievements, on June 27, 1999, Hawk was the first skater to land a "900," a trick involving the completion of two-and-a-half mid-air revolutions on a skateboard.
Not only is Hawk gifted at skateboarding, but he's also gifted in the brain-area. When he was middle school, he tested with an I.Q. of 144, and teachers recommended placing him in advanced classes.
Jamie Lee Curtis and her mother Janet Leigh out together at Studio 54 in the 1970s.
In the 70's, Studio 54 was the nightclub to go to in NYC if you were rich and famous. It was a drug-fueled, dancing frenzy for the likes of Andy Warhol, Mick Jagger, Cher, Liza Minnelli, and Michael Jackson. At the peak of the disco craze, Steve Rubell and Ian Schrager opened the club's doors in 1977. The premise was simple, a velvet rope separated the undesirables from entering the club - while the famous and beautiful partied inside. Even future president Donald Trump would frequent Studio 54 - back in the days when he was simply a bankrupt real estate mogul.
Here's a shot of mother/daughter Janet Leigh and Jamie Lee Curtis inside the legendary club - from back in the day - apparently having just seen a ghost or the trailer to the first installment of the Halloween franchise.

CAROL TEDESCO SENDS REGARDS AND TELL US ABOUT THIS EVENT FOR SAT. MARCH 27

A Pulitzer winning event to benefit A Positive Step of Monroe County

On Saturday, March 27, from 10:00am to 6:00pm, the Lilly Pulitzer shop at 600 Front Street in Key West will donate 10% of all sales to A Positive Step of Monroe County to help fund the organization’s 2021 Idle Hands Summer Youth Employment program.

The Southernmost island and the Lilly Pulitzer brand share a special historic relationship, as the late, beloved Key West artist and sculptor Suzie dePoo was staff designer for Key West Hand Print Fabrics and created many of the original fabric art designs that became Lilly Pulitzer classics. A Positive Step of Monroe County is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that has been serving Monroe County’s highest risk kids and their families since 1999. Since 2010, the organization has partnered with the City of Key West to provide summer jobs for Key West High School students through its Idle Hands Summer Youth Employment Program.

Recaptured and Reclaimed
One of Jorge de la Torriente’s most iconic artworks, Anne’s Beach, is a contextual emphasis of the remains of mangrove trees or “driftwoods” that are constantly changing and evolving. Breaking down, bit by bit, each day.
This artistic idea was recaptured during a commission project by the Ritz-Carlton Hotel in Amelia Island, Florida. In this case, grand live oaks are slowly reclaimed by the sea due to massive erosion, thus falling onto the shoreline and eventually dragged out to sea.
Like the driftwoods and seascapes that Jorge captures, his style and artistic vision changes, evolves and progresses. Jorge is constantly pushing himself past conceptual and creative barriers through different techniques of photography.
Reclaimed is now available for collecting worldwide. Like the iconic Anne’s Beach, this artwork will only be available to 56 collectors so act fast! Signed and numbered gallery editions of both Anne’s Beach and Reclaimed are selling out quickly so don’t miss out. Click the button below to get yours today.

The City of Key West held its first public workshop to gather ideas for improving Mallory Square. The workshop was held at the Waterfront Playhouse, and the input was great! The next workshop will be Thursday, March 25th at 5 p.m. at the Community Services Building (the old Citizen building) at 3420 Northside Drive. Please come and share your ideas!

Key West Police Chief Sean Brandenburg honored three dedicated members of the department for their years of service. Community Service Aide Angie Yanes has been with the department for 15 years. Officer Tiffany Beeman has served for 10 years. Officer Antonio Ane was honored for serving 5 years.

Officer Hernandez started with the City in November of 2011, working in Code Compliance. He had a distinguished and unblemished career spanning over eight years working as a code officer. During this time, he became well known in the Key West community, not only for his professionalism, but his willingness to help people.
In 2019, he attended the Law Enforcement Academy and became a sworn police officer.
Soon after his field training, the Covid-19 pandemic struck. Throughout the year, when it became necessary for police officers to enforce the mandatory mask mandate, Officer Hernandez was the first to volunteer to undertake this task on Duval Street.
“Officer Hernandez comes to work every day with a positive attitude,” said Chief Brandenburg. “He continuously motivates other officers with his contagiously positive attitude.”
Officer Hernandez’s experience in Code makes him a wealth of information to his fellow officers, says Capt. JR Torres. “He displays all of the positive attributes one could ask for in a police officer. He is intelligent, fair, supportive, caring, empathetic, knowledgeable, patient, on time, and overall a great worker.”
“He has proven invaluable to this city and to the Department,” said Chief Brandenburg. Photo 1 Below ; The Chief and Officer Hernandez

Where do tax dollars actually go once you’ve paid them? How does such a small island handle its wastewater and storm water while protecting nearshore waters? How does the City manage its marinas? The answers are just some of the knowledge you’ll gain as a Key West Ambassador.
The City of Key West is kicking off the first Ambassadors Academy class since the pandemic struck. And we’re doing it a little differently. The class will be hybrid, with a mix of on-line participation, in-person sessions, and some facility tours. As always, the City will be following strict CDC guidelines: social distance, temperatures taken, and everyone must wear a mask. Class size is limited.
There is no better way to get to know city government than through the Key West Ambassadors Academy. Registration has begun for Class 34 of the Academy. Applications are posted on the City’s web site at www.cityofkeywest-fl.gov, or you can call Alyson Crean at 305-809-1058 or email pio@cityofkeywest-fl.gov
The weekly classes begin on March 25th and wrap up on May 7th. The class meets every Thursday from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. for seven weeks.
The Ambassadors program first convened in 2003. During the weekly sessions, representatives of various City departments meet with the group – virtually or in safe limited sessions -- to give an in-depth understanding of the workings of City government.
The list of graduates of the programs looks like a who’s who of Key West that includes city and county commissioners, CEOs and directors of several not-for-profit organizations. The Ambassadors program works under the concept that an educated citizenry is the bedrock of a well-functioning democracy.

In photo 2 below: Class 32 gathers on the steps at City Hall for their graduation ceremony in 2019. Class 33 grads were honored for their participation virtually.

The Edward B and Joan T Knight Remembrance Concert to be held at the Key West Lighthouse on March 14

Impromptu Classical Concerts invites the public to a special free outdoor performance featuring the world renowned Axiom Brass Quintet, at 4 p.m. Sunday, March 14 on the grounds of the historic Key West Lighthouse at 938 Whitehead St.
The event is The Edward B and Joan T Knight Remembrance Concert, in honor of the two late local philanthropist founders of the Edward B. and Joan T. Knight Foundation. That organization was created to continue this couple’s legacy to impact lives, improve communities and inspire others to change theirs and others lives. Impromptu Classical Concerts has benefited substantially from the generosity of this foundation, and so is dedicating the performance to the memory of this remarkable couple.
Since its founding in 2007, the Chicago-based Axiom Brass Quintet has become one of the most awarded brass chamber ensembles in the U.S. Praised for a “High level of musicality and technical ability—clean, clear and precise sound,” by Chamber Music America, the ensemble won the 2008 International Chamber Brass Competition followed by the 2010 Fischoff Chamber Music Competition, Plowman Chamber Music Competition and Juju City International Brass Quintet Competition in South Korea. In 2012 the group was also the only brass quintet in 27 years to win the prestigious Chamber Music Yellow Springs Competition and that same year became the only American ensemble to win the Preis de Europa-Stadt Passau in Germany.
Seating for this concert will be appropriately spaced and masks are required. A strict limit of 225 seats will be adhered to.

Stephen Muldoon is a completely self-taught artist with over 40 years of painting experience. After an extensive career in painting show motorcycles, cars and boats as well as creating frescoes, murals, landscapes and portraits, Muldoon was studying the sunset one evening and the sky looked like copper and the lightbulb went off to paint on metal.
After a years-long progression of developing his own techniques, mediums and processes the magic of metal art was born, creating a whole new level of interaction with the viewer. Being able to do things with trick paint and multiple layering that you could not do on canvas brings a whole new life to his art.
After burying the art under 16 coats of clear, wet sanding in between each coat, and polishing and buffing to a near mirror finish, the final product is what he calls his Ferrari finish.
Unique paints on metal, brings an archival quality to a whole new standard. You don’t have to worry about UV, fading, humidity or moisture. Muldoon believes this is the future of art.
With a watchful eye of the old masters and a hand in contemporary society, this is what Muldoon calls the art of creating Art.

May Sands Montessori School Application Season Open for School Year 2022

KEY WEST, FL - May Sands Montessori School, Key West’s ONLY tuition-free Montessori school, is now conducting its Open Application Season for the 2022 School Year Admissions Lottery.  Located in the heart of Key West, May Sands Montessori School serves students in grades VPK-8th. Applicants must be Monroe Country residents. The Application period is open until April 23, 2021. The public Admissions Lottery drawing will be held on May 7, 2021.
Application packets and instructions can be found online at MaySandsMontessori.com or picked up at the school’s Front Office, at 1400 United Street #110, Key West, FL 33040. For more information, call 305-293-1400 ext. 53418.

As a Monroe County public charter school, May Sands Montessori School has been providing tuition-free, high-quality Montessori education to residents of the lower keys for almost 25 years. "The Montessori method may be one of the best-kept secrets in education," says school head Lynn Barras. This child-centered, individualized approach was developed over 100 years ago by Dr. Maria Montessori, the first woman physician in Italy and life-long educationalist. The Montessori approach is on the cutting edge of today's school reform movement, which identifies innovations that have been part of Montessori classrooms since 1907. Multi-age groupings, a rich and extensive curriculum implemented with hands-on materials, cross-discipline learning, and care of the global environment are just a few of these innovative characteristics. “We love May Sands Montessori,” one parent reported, “Teachers and staff have created a warm, family atmosphere that nurtures children developmentally and academically to be their best selves.”

In January, Detective Stutz investigated a juvenile battery case that involved over 30 juveniles. This case involved interviewing a large number of suspects and witnesses.
“Detective Stutz went above and beyond,” said Chief Brandenburg, “dedicating an entire week – over 40 hours – to investigate this case. Ultimately, Detective Stutz made five arrests.
“Detective Stutz’s dedication and professionalism bring distinguished professional recognition to the Key West Police Department,” said the Chief.

Billy Joel hanging out by a sign, 1974.
Early Billy Joel was kind of cool. Here he is back in 1974 - showing a lot of irony while drinking in public right next to a sign where it says it's not permitted to do such. Mr. Piano Man grew up in Long Island. His father was a classical pianist born in Germany - who emigrated to America to escape the Nazi regime. Coming from a musical family, Joel has a half-brother, Alexander Joel, who is a classical conductor in Europe.
Not only did Joel take up music at an early age, but he also took up boxing to help defend himself. In fact, as a teenager he successfully boxed on the amateur Golden Gloves circuit. He won 22 bouts, but quit the sport when his nose was broken during his 24th bout. And the rest is Piano Man history.
Kathy Ireland up to bat in a Sports Illustrated photo, 1987.
As far as being a supermodel goes, Kathy Ireland always hit a home run. Not only did she appear in 13 consecutive Sports Illustrated swimsuit issues - but Ireland also has a current net worth of $420 million. That's knocking the ball clear out of the park. Besides having her own brand company, Ireland has appeared in a numerous TV and movie roles. Most notably is the 1988 flick: Alien from L.A. The plot centers on a young woman who visits the underground civilization of Atlantis. Not to say the movie is laughable - but it got a send-up during the fifth season of Mystery Science Theater 3000.
In more recent years, Ireland was also featured on the ninth season of Dancing with the Stars, with her dance partner Tony Dovolani. Sadly, the dancing couple was eliminated in the second week of competition. Boo!
Willie Nelson's mug shot when he was arrested in 1974 by the Dallas Police Department for possession of marijuana.
When you think of Willie Nelson, one of the things that comes to mind is massive amounts of weed. Here is the musical icon's mugshot from when he was arrested for a weed-related-escapade. The musician first landed himself in jail for marijuana possession in Dallas in 1974. A reoccurring motif in Nelson's life, he was arrested again in 2010 when Border Patrol agents stopped his tour bus in Sierra, Texas. They found six ounces of pot on board. What do you expect when you pull over Willie Nelson's tour bus? After that arrest Nelson created the TeaPot party under the motto "Tax it, regulate it and legalize it!"
George Harrison and Pattie Boyd visiting Haight-Ashbury in San Francisco for the "Summer of Love" in 1967.
George Harrison once said when he visited Haight-Ashbury in San Francisco during the "Summer of Love" in 1967 - it was a defining moment when he knew the hippie movement was over. After spending 6 days in Los Angeles, Harrison and his wife Pattie flew in a private jet up to San Francisco to visit his wife's sister and to see what the deal was with all these American hippies. At the time, Haight-Ashbury was the LSD capital of America and was the home to such musicians as Jefferson Airplane, Grateful Dead and Janis Joplin.
Boyd said of their experience:
"We were expecting Haight-Ashbury to be special, a creative and artistic place, filled with Beautiful People, but it was horrible – full of ghastly drop-outs, bums and spotty youths, all out of their brains. Everybody looked stoned – even mothers and babies – and they were so close behind us they were treading on the backs of our heels. It got to the point where we couldn't stop for fear of being trampled."
Not fun to be a Beatle if the hippies turn out to be aggressive.
Catherine Bach on the set of a photo shoot in the early 1980s.
Catherine Bach was one of the queens of the 70s and 80s - with her role of Daisy Duke on the Southern redneck TV show, The Dukes of Hazzard. But besides her comedic portrayal on the show, Bach is best known for a particular article of clothing: her Daisy Duke short-shorts. Back in the day, Bach had her famous legs insured for $1 million. Recently Bach has spoken out about Hollywood's obsession with being skinny and body image. She pointed out that she was slim during her heyday on Hazzards - not from starving herself, but because she was an athlete. She kept herself in shape during her Daisy Duke days by dancing three hours a day, hiking, and swimming.

Anne McKee Artists Fund Grant Applications available now!
Bring your project to life with an Anne McKee Fund Grant.

Thank you to the 54 Monroe County Artists who participated in the Annual Anne McKee Fine Art Auction in February. Staying true to our mission: Artists Helping Artists, the proceeds from the annual auction will be available for grants in the 2021 Grant Cycle. Thank you to all our bidders to help to raise $22,000 during this year's online auction. Half will go back to the participating artists, the rest to the Fund.

We are proud to offer grant opportunities to individual visual, performing and literary artists who reside in Key West or the Florida Keys. The AMAF was created to give project-based assistance to individual artists. Grants are awarded on the basis of financial need and/or to promote recognition of emerging talent. Other factors considered are a history of dedication and excellence in the applicant’s area of expertise and their commitment and involvement in the cultural community of Key West and/or the Florida Keys. Grants are awarded at the sole discretion of the AMAF Board of Directors, after fair and careful consideration.
Grants are awarded to successful applicants in varying amounts up to $2000. Previous grant winners may apply every 2 years. Acceptable expenses typically include project material costs, framing, publishing expenses and advertising. Founded by longtime Key West resident and art patron, Anne McKee, the not-for-profit Fund has awarded over $330,000 in grants since its inception in 1994.

Additionally, there are three special grants awarded to young aspiring artists. Local students and young adults are eligible to receive grants that can assist in the development of their talents in the arts. Youth scholarships are available for 14 years and younger, and 14 years and older. The Jon McIntosh Student Grant for Artistic Advancement, named for lifelong Key West artist and mentor of new artists, Jon McIntosh, is specifically awarded to a high school student to advance their creativity.

The “Environmental Award” is a unique project based onetime grant earmarked by a donation courtesy of Royal Caribbean International. This grant supports artists doing innovative work with repurposed recycled materials and/or a project with an environmental focus.

Applications and more detailed information are available now at  www.MckeeFund.org. Completed applications must be submitted no later than 5 PM EST on Wednesday, March 31, 2021. Grant recipients will be notified of their application status on or before April 14, 2021.

Key West’s Red Barn Theatre will present the fourth online offering of its 41st season with a streaming production of Jane Martin’s funny and provocative “Sez She”, starring a stellar cast of 16 of Key West’s top female actors, directed by the Barn’s artistic director, Joy Hawkins.
The show will run March 8-20 and can be accessed through the theater’s website at redbarntheatre.com. Tickets are only $10, with viewing available 24/7 on any platform with an internet connection, be it TV, phone, or tablet.
“Sez She” is the late Martin’s final play in a series that has featured the broad perspectives on life of modern-day women, told in a series of intimate and revealing monologues. Two previous plays, “Talking With” and “Vital Signs”, have won numerous awards, including the American Theatre Critics Best Play Award. Martin, herself, has been nominated for a Pulitzer Prize for another of her plays, “Keely and Du”.
“Sez She” offers humorous and outspoken takes on everything from the fun of regressing to our childhood to the grownup "wheeee" of sex, from celebrating Damn Fools Day to the virtues of being green (yes…the color green). They touch chords of hilarity, surprise, homespun philosophy, frustration, and even political commentary. Each and every one of them has you hanging on every word.
The actors in the play are: Susannah Wells, George DiBraud, Caroline Taylor, Carolyn Cooper, Erin McKenna, Marjorie Paul Shook, Jessica Miano Kruel, Amber McDonald Good, Gerri Louise Gates, Melody G. Moore, Nicole Nurenberg, Zoe Hawkins-Wells, Vanessa McCaffrey, and Mimi McDonald.
Whether written by a man or woman, Jane Martin’s “Sez She” is a powerful, engaging, provocative play perfectly tuned to the times we are living through right now. The Minneapolis Star-Tribune called it
“…enormously entertaining, more like a Disney World ride aimed at adults. Lean back, take a deep breath, and grasp the handrail firmly.”

AN AWESOME DOUBLE HEADER ON MARCH 15 : RITA TROXEL and JOHN MARTINI (WOW) (WOW) (WOW)

The Friends of the Key West Library’s popular speaker series will present local favorite Rita Troxel in conversation with sculptor John Martini via webinar on March 15, 2021. All lectures in the 2021 season will be presented online due to the pandemic. As in past years the lectures are free and open to all, but you must register to receive the presentation link. https://www.friendsofthekeywestlibrary.org/registration
Rita Troxel will be in conversation with sculptor John Martini on the occasion of the publication of her new book, Home at the End of the World
Rita Troxel moved to Key West in 1974 with the intent to start a theater with a group of friends from college. Hence Greene Street Theatre came into being and garnered much acclaim thanks to the involvement of Tennessee Williams. Her work has included theater manager and actor, sales clerk, jeweler, extras casting for movies. She worked for Newman and Associates Public Relations firm and spent 22 years as Film Commissioner for the Tourist Development Council representing the Florida Keys to the entertainment industry. She also made a little cameo appearance in Season 3 of “Bloodline.”
John Martini lives and works in Key West, Florida and Veuxhaulles-Sur-Aube, France. He moved to Key West in 1976. While working odd jobs he earned his 50 ton masters captain license and then opened a sailing school at the same time as maintaining a sculpture studio in the abandoned Truman Annex.
His sculptures are shown internationally in galleries and museums including Lucky Street Gallery in Key West, Sandler Hudson Gallery in Atlanta, GA, the Shidoni Annual in New Mexico, Galerie Antoine Laurentin in Paris, France and Galleria Santamarta in Milan, Italy.
The lectures will be available for viewing following the presentations through the Friends of the Key West Library website.

ENCORE
Editor's Note : The Two Brief Features Below are from a few Months ago; but certainly worth repeating

----------------------------

The City of Key West has partnered with the Monroe County Tourist Development Council to remind visitors and residents that masks are required to be worn in Key West.
The TDC has funded an additional two dozen pole banners destined to be installed in the busiest commercial areas. The tourism council is also helping to finance production of a portion of 10 overhead street banners.
Besides other measures being taken by both the City and the TDC, Key West portable electronic dynamic messaging signs are also set up at key sites to better inform arriving visitors of the city’s strict mask ordinance.

--------------------------------------------
THE CITY OF KEY WEST HAS A NEW MASK ORDINANCE
Editor's Note : This Material was sent a few months ago . Of course it's still important that you read it.

The Key West City Commission today amended the City’s mask ordinance in light of the current spike in Covid-19 cases.
After an in-depth discussion, the commission voted unanimously to remove an exemption that had allowed the removal of masks outdoors. The City now requires the wearing of masks any time a resident or a visitor steps out of their residence, they must wear a mask regardless of the ability to social distance
“We’re trying to regain control of our more crowded outdoor areas,” City Manager Greg Veliz told the commission.
During Tuesday’s meeting, the commission discussed creating mask zones for the busiest areas. However, City Attorney Shawn Smith said zoning would create a patchwork that could lead to inconsistency as well as creating a difficulty for enforcement.
To read the ordinance in its entirety, go to www.cityofkeywest-fl.gov.

March 5, 2021 – (Key West, FL).  Key West’s legendary Duval Street is celebrated in a new exhibition at the Custom House Museum

The Key West Art & Historical Society is pleased to announce the opening of “The History of Duval Street: The Longest Street in the World,” an exhibition honoring the island’s main thoroughfare staged in the Bryan Gallery at the Custom House Museum, 281 Front Street. Curated by Cori Convertito, the exhibition features images, objects and artwork dating from the 19th century to the present day representing several of the people, buildings and events connected to Duval Street.

Duval is the most recognized street in the Florida Keys and is whimsically nicknamed “The Longest Street in the World” since it runs from Gulf of Mexico all the way to the Atlantic Ocean. Home to architectural gems such as St. Paul’s Church, The Strand Theater, the San Carlos Institute and the Southernmost House, it has also hosted iconic bars and restaurants including Sloppy Joe’s, the Bull & Whistle, The Chart Room, Shorty’s, Delmonico’s and many more.

“The pulse of the island, both historically and presently, beats from this particular street. When the military established themselves in Key West, they did so on the northern end, near the deep water port,” says Convertito. “From there, Duval grew in length and importance to wreckers, spongers, cigar manufacturers, tourists and residents.”

A few of the remarkable objects that will be on display include a 100-foot section of the “Sea to Sea” Rainbow Flag that was spread 1.25 miles from the Gulf to the Atlantic in 2003 and a silk menu from a luncheon held at the Russell Hotel in honor of Ulysses S. Grant’s visit to the island in 1880. Intaglios illustrating several Duval Street buildings created by Cuban-American artist Mario Sanchez will also be presented to visitors.

“So much of our island’s heritage is connected to that one-and-a-quarter mile thoroughfare,” adds Convertito. “By mounting this exhibition, the Society hopes to enlighten visitors on the historical importance of Duval Street that extends well beyond its bars and restaurants; we must honor the people, the buildings and events that shaped our story.”

“Duval Street: The Longest Street in the World” launches with an exhibit opening on March 19, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. that is open to the public. Social distancing and masks will be required in order to adhere to local and CDC guidelines. The exhibition runs until August 2021 and is sponsored by the Helmerich Trust and the Florida Division of Cultural Affairs. For more information call Cori Convertito, Ph.D., at 305-295-6616 x112, email her at cconvertitofarrar@kwahs.org, or visit kwahs.org/exhibitions.  Your Museums.
