This Week's Journey Around the World in Photographs Features Lagoa Portugal
According to some historical sources, the earliest settlement in the area occurred along the edges of small lakes or marshes (Portuguese: lagoa), which were drained in order to create a fertile land. There are many pre-historic vestiges of the early settlements, including menhirs (standing stones), funerary necropoles and artifacts that date a human presence to remote history. The entire region of the Algarve was conquered by the Arabs when they moved into the Iberian peninsula in the 8th century.
When the area was later reconquered in the mid-12th century by Christian forces from the north, it was integrated into the fledgling Kingdom of Portugal. Muslim influence in Lagoa was profound, from the rich patrimony left behind, not only in neighboring Silves (then taifa capital), but also in Lagoa where commerce thrived.
During the 14th century, a favorable confluence of conditions allowed Lagoa to develop rapidly.[5] Yet, the events of the 1755 Lisbon earthquake left little marks from this period: the reconstruction wiped away many of its classic architecture (there are a rare few of this period, including the churches of Estômbar and Porches.[5]
The coastal zone was, for centuries, attacked by pirates and corsairs, and those responsible for public security erected various defensive structures along the coast, such as the fortresses of Nossa Senhora da Rocha, Carvoeiro and São João de Ferragudo, in addition to the lookouts and redoubts, such as the tower of Lapa or Marinha.
For a long period, Lagoa was governed within the municipality of Silves. On the 16 January 1773, a foral (charter) was issued King Joseph I, incorporating the municipality of Lagoa, after its principal settlement (Lagoa) was elevated to the status of town (Portuguese: vila).
The local natural resources contributed to the current economic structure of the municipality, with agriculture (especially fruit and wine production), fishing, light industry and, later, tourism influencing the activities of the region. The fishing industry (in the communities of FerragudoBenagilCarvoeiro and Senhora da Rocha), vineyards, and the traditional products of irrigated agriculture were the principal sources of wealth for the area until the 1970s. Driven by the abundance of fish, the canning and conserve industry at the beginning of the 20th century was responsible for an economic boom, that brought a general prosperity and wealth to the region.

Photographer Tom Kelley, Sr. couldn't know the photo would become history and help define sexuality for a generation.

TODD GERMAN Travels A Lot ; especially after the Elections and Hometown Key West Season are Over. Once again a Big Thanks to Todd and His Staff at Hometown and Joyce Griffin and Her Staff at the Monroe County Supervisor of Elections Office. Below are a few of Todd's Photos. His Facebook Page is always filled with Great Photos of his Travels
We Start Part 1 of a few Parts of Classic Photos from the 60s and 70s. Important Note Usually these Photopgraphic Features are from the Hundreds of the WWW.GROOVYHISTORY.COM Catalog. This Muti-Part Photographic Feature is Not.

Natalie Wood looks like a goddess
Here's another picture featuring the timeless beauty of Natalie Wood. The legendary actress was just a teenager when she propelled to fame, thanks to her films such as Rebel Without a Cause and West Side Story. However, in the 1970s, Wood stepped out of the limelight to build a family. When she had her first child, Wood decided to turn down some huge roles. The alluring talent was in an on-and-off relationship with actor Robert Wagner until she died in 1981.
John Candy in curlers with his daughter Jennifer (1983).
Comedy legend John Candy loved making films, but he definitely loved spending time with his family more. In his downtime, the Hollywood actor would play his two children, Chris and Jen. John Candy played many iconic characters, but according to his daughter, he preferred his saucy SCTV anything-salesman role, "He loved Johnny LaRue. That character was smarmy, but he was lovable. And I think that’s one of the things that was at the core of all of our dad’s characters, a likability."
John Travolta and Sylvester Stallone leaving Studio 54 (1983)
Wondering how these two different actors became friends? Well, thanks to the film Staying Alive, the two worked together with Sylvester Stallone directing and John Travolta starring.  To prepare Travolta for his role, Stallone put him in workout circuit that turned Travolta from a skinny hunk to a superhuman muscleman. In an interview with People Magazine, Stallone said,"People like Sly can look at a body like clay and mold it. I never thought of designing a body. I just thought, ‘Diet, run, lose it and you’ll look good.’ I didn’t think of shaping the shoulder, the triceps, the waist."
Sissy Spacek showcases her natural beauty (1970)
Sissy Spacek's iconic look landed her a few roles, but her talent made supporters stay. The young beauty's journey to success started in 1966. She was just 17 years old when she moved to New York City, hoping to secure a record deal. She would carry her twelve-string guitar around the city and played for whoever would listen. Luck found Spacek in a form of a talent manager who pursue being an actress instead of singer-songwriter. After signing up for classes at the Lee Strasberg Theater Institute, she rose to fame.
Adrienne Barbeau is cradled by the Swamp Thing (1982)
Here is Adrienne Barbeau showing us she can look good in anything. The legendary actress starred as Alice Cable in the 1982 film Swamp Thing. Her character builds a weird friendship with the DC comics creature "Swamp Thing." When asked what made her decide to do the film, she said, "It was whimsical and charming and lovely. I didn't see it as a horror film... It's Beauty and the Beast — it's more of a fantasy or fairy tale maybe in my mind."
Girls in groovy street fashion (1969)

Let's talk fashion. In the 1960s, fashion was all about what others were wearing. It could be a fringed dress and a headband, or blue jeans and a vest. Men and women both wore fringes through dresses, jackets, and even pants. In this photo, the two women have a different style but both so fashionable and chic. The girl on the left is sporting a short velvet pantsuit, while the one on the right is wearing a Native American-inspired fringed dress.

Jill and Sean send Holiday Greetings and Tell Us :
Key West Artisan Market Scheduled to Start Sunday Cancelled Until Further Notice..ALSO PLEASE READ FOR TRUMAN WATERFRONT FARMERS MARKET Change in Days /Hours tyo Accommodate for Holiday Shopping

Per the City of Key West: “With due regard to the safe and healthy environment in Key West, the City has cancelled the Holiday Parade and all special events on City property through December 31st due to the concerns regarding the COVID-19 increase in cases in Key West and Monroe County.” This includes the Key West Artisan Market which was scheduled to start this Sunday, November 22 at Indigenous Park. After months of delay by Monroe County for permits at the Higgs beach location next to the dog park, the City had reached out to organizers to offer the new location in the parking lot of the Wildlife Bird Sanctuary as an alternative. The City Commission passed the resolution unanimously at the November 17 meeting. In the few days since, the Commission passed a strengthened face covering mandate at an emergency meeting and have been working on other measures to help lower potential COVID exposure.

"We are devastated for our artists, vendors and mom and pop businesses who have worked hard to beef up inventory to meet the demands of this popular market," organizer Sean Krikorian said. "Many of them have had very limited opportunity to make any income during the seven months of being shut down. But at the same time we stand behind the City's decision to keep our community safe and appreciate all they are doing to move Key West in a better direction." Krikorian acknowledged.

For now, the Key West Truman Waterfront Farmers Market will be allowed to continue as it is considered an essential service by the state of Florida. With Thanksgiving on Thursday, the Market will move to Friday and operate from 10 am to 6 pm. The Market hopes to move to Wednesday the week of Christmas and New Year to avoid conflicting with Christmas and New Years eve.

"Safety for our guests and participants at all the Markets is our highest priority," Krikorian stated. “We will continue to work with the City to develop protocols that hopefully will allow us to continue operating the Farmers Market and open the Artisan Market soon."

Our board members agreed that a space we could "control" was a must. We are excited to announce that Fringe will be renting the first floor at the Armory, located at 600 White Street, from the Historic Florida Keys Foundation. This is a big move for us -- in more ways than one. But we believe it's the right move since it lets us present our 2020-21 Main Stage season in a space that accommodates social distancing and all the other appropriate health protocols. We've got lots more great news to announce about our season. We're going to be trying a lot of things, and we hope that you will be there with us ... in whatever way makes you comfortable! 'Fringe at the Armory' will remain Key West's community-focused theater. Now more than ever! www.fringetheater.org.. Here are a few Photos that Daaisha Cochran Took

We Now Start Part 5 of Probably 8 Weeks of showing an AMAZING 120+ Collection of Classic Cars Owned by Jay Leno "Jay Leno's Garage". He also had a CNBC TV Show Featuring his 120 Classic Cars WWW.LENOSGARAGE.COM
64. 1963 Chevrolet Corvair Rampside
Model Year: 1963
Original Value: $2,136*
Current Value: $15,000*

Leno’s unique 1963 Chevrolet Corvair Rampside pickup truck looks almost cartoonish, with bright red and white paint and a long bed. The Rampside was novel because its cargo bed opened from the side, in addition to the back, a feature that has not taken off with current pickups.
The Rampside was plagued by the same problems as the Corvair, which one car magazine called a near “stake to the heart” for Chevy. The Rampside failed to take off with buyers (minus Jay Leno, who owns it for the antique value). This pickup truck weighed 4,700 pounds and could tow 1,500 pounds.
65. 1991 GMC Syclone
Model Year: 1991
Original Value: $18,700*
Current Value: $5,810*
In 1991, Jay Leno bought this GMC Syclone pickup as his daily driver. He used it as his daily driver for several years after purchasing the sporty pickup brand-new. The ’91 Syclone held the distinction of being the fastest-accelerating vehicle in America when it was introduced (non-production vehicles aside).
The Syclone came with a 4.3-liter V6 engine which Leno had turbocharged. While a pickup with a turbo-engine isn’t news today, in the early nineties, it was a rarity. GMC was out at the forefront of pickup truck technology. Though Leno retired it as his daily driver, he still is fond of it.

66. 1963 Chrysler Turbine Car
Model Year: 1963
Original Value: $50,000-$55,000*
Current Value: $415,000*
If you’ve ever seen James May’s Cars to the People, you might have caught the Chrysler Turbine Car, as Leno introduced it on the show some years back. The Turbine car was unique because it was somewhat of an amalgamation. The body was made by Ghia, an Italian design studio. The interior was done by Chrysler in Detroit.
The Turbine was powered by an A-831 airplane engine. This engine was advantageous because it required less maintenance, could use a variety of different fuels and lasted longer than a car engine. However, the car was also unwieldy, loud, and a gas-guzzler, so Chrysler scrapped production plans in 1979.

67. Maserati 3500 GT
Model Year: 1962
Original Value: $25,000 ($11,400 in 1962)*
Current Value: $269,000
This was somewhat of an accidental purchase on Leno’s part. Leno was on the hunt for an Aston Martin DB5 when he stumbled upon this Maserati 3500 GT. This GT had been stored for two decades and had 100,000 miles on it. It needed a lot of mechanical work, but Leno was taken with the beautiful paint job and body, so he bought it for $25K. His mechanics restored it, putting in a new fuel injection system, throttle, and other parts. Leno kept it authentic for the most part, but he had to replace the shocks and radiator completely.

68. 1962 Daimler SP250
Model Year: 1962
Original Value: $3,750*
Current Value: $56,500*
Jay Leno’s 1962 Daimler SP250 was previously owned by Bob Brzozowski, who had pretty much forgotten that he had it. He stored it outside in his backyard, where it sat in the snow and rain for four decades. Somehow, Leno stumbled upon it and purchased the beater. He restored the Daimler. His first ride in the SP250 didn’t exactly go smoothly. He chose to film it, which ended up being a bad idea when the engine nearly kicked out. He made it home, traveling extremely slowly. The Daimler kept its 2.5-liter V8 Hemi, but it needed a lot more work before hitting the road.

69. 1963 Ford Falcon Sprint
Model Year: 1963
Original Value: $1,974*
Current Value: $33,000*
Sold to Leno by Bring a Trailer less than twenty-four hours after it came on the market, this 1963 Ford Falcon Sprint is an example of the comedian’s wide-ranging taste in cars. Leno fell in love with the Falcon Sprint when he worked as a lot boy at a Ford dealership (before he became famous). He described the Sprint as “big engine, small car.” Under the hood is a 2.6-liter Ford V8 engine. The performance car had been updated before Leno bought it. It got a new 289 V8 engine that got 360 horsepower. It also got a Monte Carlo brace for better balance.

70. 1935 Delahaye 135 S
Model Year: 1935
Original Value: $5,000*
Current Value: $6.6 million*
The 1935 Delahaye 135 S is one of the more antique cars in Leno’s garage. It is one of just fourteen ever made. The car was built in 1935 and sold a year later, and it was supposed to race in the 24 Hours of Le Mans (raced by its owner, Pierre Louis Dreyfus, AKA Helde). However, social unrest led to the race’s cancellation that year. It would later change hands to Madame Germaine Rouault, who registered it in France. She had her friend, Louis Gerard, race it in Britain. Leno bought his from a private owner, years down the road.
