HU JUN DI

Hu Jun Di was born in the Jilin province in Northern China in 1962. He moved with his family at the height of the Cultural Revolution to the city of Chongqing where he was able to secretly study painting at 9 under a renowned Chinese instructor who has trained some of modern China's most celebrated artists. After the revolution, he continued his training in the oil department of the Southwest Educational College. His work is full of dense Chinese colors, the lush atmosphere and Sichuan's warm moisture is floating in the paintings. His brilliance is in the harmonious blend of traditional Chinese brush with the unmatched depth of oils, melting the eastern and western cultures and techniques together with complete integrity. He does not use models. He paints the character in his mind, catching a moment.

Oh how times have greatly changed. Back in the 1930s, society's perception of beauty was for women to have a few extra pounds on them. Thin women were looked as scrawny, weak, and nervous. Think of Olive Oil from Popeye. See what I mean? And the best way recommended to women for adding extra pounds was to drink lots of beer. According to this ad, that's what doctors prescribed for putting on an extra 5-15 lbs in just a few weeks. But then again, this was the same era where they also had ads with doctors recommending smoking cigarettes. Though prescribing beer seems insane, hops, which are are found in beer, has been used in herbal medicine since before the 1500s.
Madonna Louise Ciccone has been the Queen of Pop - since her arrival on the scene back in the '80s. Surprisingly (or not), Madonna was raised by Catholic parents in the suburbs of Detroit. A pure product of Motor City, her dad worked as an engineer designer for Chrysler and General Motors. Early on, Madonna's dad inspired her to get into the arts, putting her in classical piano lessons and ballet classes. She was a straight-A student in high school and was even a member of the cheerleading squad. Madonna received a dance scholarship to the University of Michigan - but ended up dropping out in order to move to New York City to pursue her dream. And the rest is Madonna history!

"Animal Mothers"
What Have I done?
A large part of parenthood is learning new ways to handle the exhaustion. While as humans we can hire nannies or get a babysitter for a night, our feline friends don't have the same privilege. Since those in the animal kingdom can't just leave their kids with a sitter while they meet up with their friends for a drink, they have to resort to other ways to work through their tiredness. Perhaps this tired mom of several kittens is focusing on what life was like before motherhood. Back when her life was carefree and naps were plentiful. Compared to what her life has become, surely she looks back at that time as the glory days. Surely the sight of her beautiful furry babies will remind her of the joys of motherhood though!
Heart Birthmarks
While many first time parents fear their kids will get their mother's nose or their grandfather's hairline, there's also the joy of seeing a child that comes out with the features we love. They may have your partner's smile and your eyes, adding to the already prominent bond a parent has with their newborn from the moment they arrive. Parents of the animal kingdom may have similar emotions when they give birth. This mama dog may be exhausted after delivering eight pups, but she's certainly proud of passing on her unique birthmark. Here, momma is posing with one of her newborn puppies showing off their identical heart-shaped markings. We can only hope this one-of-a-kind trait gets passed down again and again!
Some Personal Space, Please
In addition to your freedom, you lose your privacy the moment you start having children. Since they can't take care of themselves, they look to their parents for everything. From something to eat to a cozy place to nap, we can't even use the bathroom without our kids barging in on us. After all, they have the right to! This cat knows all about the lack of privacy that comes with motherhood. With her kittens all still learning to walk, their tiny legs can't keep up. So, rather than walk at their pace, this impatient momma allows her offspring to ride on her back. She may be giving up a bit more privacy, but at least she knows they'll get where they need to be in a timely manner.
We've Definitely Made This Face
As a parent, we've all had that moment when we thought, "What was I thinking when I decided to have children?" It runs through our minds when our kids use a screwdriver to draw pictures on our new car, or when they rip off their clothes in public, or when they throw a fit in the supermarket by ripping everything off the shelves in that aisle. Based on her expression, that's precisely what's going through this Opossum's mind. While she may be trapped in the middle of a major breakdown, look at how her babies remain calm. Unfortunately for this new mom, she can't play dead to get out of this one.

WWW.BRAKEFORIT.COM This Company Sponsored a Feature of 30 Photos from Cars that are : RESTOMOD . Here are just 6 Photos ; the remaining 25 Photos will be in the September 14 and 21st. Issues.

If you’re into vintage-looking cars, but you still want all of the power and flourishes of modern design, look no further than “restomodding.” The term “restomod” is just the combination of restoration and modification. People take old cars and deck them out with all of the latest and greatest gadgets in the automotive industry.
This is the best way to combine classic style and modern performance. They may have had the aesthetics down pat in the past, but modern-age cars can’t be beat when it comes to mechanics.

A fundraising photography coffee table book
The Anne McKee Artist Fund of the Florida Keys is proud to announce that 10 of our previous grant recipients and two current board members are participating in this fundraising project for Sister Season Fund, Inc.

Contributing photographers/previous grant recipients: Lynne Bentley-Kemp, Larry Blackburn, Ralph DePalma,  Todd Andrew Feit, Tony Gregory, C.J. Groth, Mark Hedden, Martha Hubbard, Rob O’Neal, Carol Tedesco, and Sharon Wells. Board Members: Roberta DePiero and Eric Grahl.
The Awesome Foundation Key West chapter recently presented a $1000.00 grant to Roberta DePiero and Carol Tedesco to support publishing of a limited edition commemorative photo-book of images shot by 26 area photographers during the “COVID-19 Spring,” taken when the Keys underwent an unprecedented months-long shutdown. Which is why all proceeds from the sales of this book go to Key West’s Sister Season Fund, which is dedicated to helping all of the many people working in tourist related industries, including entertainment, hospitality, lodging, and some retail and guest services.

With a forward written by local arts advocate Rosi Ware, the book is anticipated to be in print and available some time in September. Anyone wishing to contribute to the printing cost and/or wishing to place advance orders, please contact Roberta DePiero at roberta@keywestplaybills.com.

Celebrities are just ordinary people....except they are rich, famous, beautiful, and incredibly talented. Celebrities also take amazing photos. And we have photos of celebrities captured in their natural habitat - like you've never seen before. During the 70s and 80s, there was a show called, Battle of the Network Stars. Not only did TV stars compete in athletic contests, but it also allowed the TV network to feature actresses in tight and wet swimsuits for pure titillation purposes. And we have the photos to prove it. Not only that, but we also have candid shots of such old-timey sex symbols as Buffalo Bill Cody, an 18-year old John Candy, and Jamie Lee Curtis - years before she broke big in the movie, Halloween.
If that's not enough, we'll also show you how men were taught to kiss women in 1911 and what was on the breakfast menu the day the Titanic sunk. Let's journey forward to a world of mystery, intrigue, and celebrities like you've never seen them before.
Sure this looks fun, but it didn't end well. On September 27th, 1986, 1.5 million helium-filled balloons were release in Cleveland as part of Balloonfest '86; a fundraising effort organized by the United Way. The purpose was to break the world record for the biggest simultaneous balloon launch. It was meant to be whimsical and fun, but ended up being a environmental disaster. The balloons got caught in a storm and drifted back down to earth. The airborne balloons also clouded the sky and caused a local airport to shut down a runway. I'm pretty darn sure someone got fired for coming up with this stunt - because with 1.5 million balloons, what possible could've gone wrong?
Why did this never catch on? The 1950s was a time for an optimistic view of a better tomorrow. And what could make suburban life better than a futuristic air conditioned lawn mower. On Oct. 14, 1957, the future of lawn mowing took a new turn with the addition of a beautiful air conditioned bubble; the rider could cut the lawn while looking like a creature in some sort of futuristic zoo while riding in a clear five foot sphere. Not only was this appliance air conditioned, but it also had an electrical generator that powered such life necessities as a radio telephone and a chilled drink dispenser.

Because of her role of Wonder Woman, on the 70s TV show, Lynda Carter was voted 3rd in the recent AOL poll: TV's Sexiest Women Ever. Sure Carter is a beauty, but did you know that she also performed many of her own stunts on Wonder Woman? Well she did; including hanging from a helicopter. This was much to the nervous chagrin of network execs at ABC. She also appeared as a daredevil on the 1977 show, Circus of the Stars. Carter was the target of darts being thrown at her by fellow actor, David Janssen. Fortunately he missed.
It must of been insane to be married to Robin Williams during the moment when he skyrocketed to fame back in the 70s. Valerie Velardi would know - and you should hear the stories she has to tell in the recently released documentary, Come Inside My Mind. The couple first met in 1976 when Williams was an unknown actor and comedian in San Francisco. The couple got married in 1978 and stayed together for 10 years before Velardi filed for divorce. The Mork and Mindy star wasn't really the most faithful of husbands. HE REALLY LOVED WOMEN, HE ABSOLUTELY LOVED WOMEN ; AND I GOT IT; Velardi recently commented

Florida Keys Seafood Festival Cancelled Due to Covid

The Board of Directors of the Florida Keys Commercial Fishermen has voted unanimously to cancel their only fundraiser. The 11th Annual Florida Keys Seafood Festival was scheduled for January 16-17, 2021 (Martin Luther King weekend) at the Truman Waterfront in Key West.

Executive Director, Captain Bill Kelly said the primary concern is protecting the health and welfare of the fishermen and their families who catch, clean, cook and serve the food, the guests, patrons and all others connected with the event. In addition, the City of Key West has canceled all events originally scheduled through the end of this year and is currently not accepting permit applications for any events to be hosted on city property in 2021. Captain Kelly explained of the difficult decision, "Large-scale, food events of this type require plenty of lead time, food ordering, advance deposits and countless hours of preparation. Therefore, in the best interests of all, the January event is officially canceled." He is cautiously hopeful a seafood celebration could still take place in 2021. "As fishermen, we are forever optimistic and hope the pandemic will run its course in due time", he said. " Should that happen, we will consider conducting a seafood festival later in the year."

Proceeds from the festival benefit the Florida Keys Commercial Fishermen’s Association important work in supporting sustainable fishing programs, marine restoration projects, consumer education and scholarships for college-bound students from Key Largo to Key West. Dear Subscribers and Friends of Impromptu Classical Concerts,

Our 2021 season is approaching, and as the Impromptu Board seeks the proper response to the Covid19 epidemic, we are reaching out to those closest to us to ask your opinion about the upcoming season. We, of course, want very much to have the wonderful performers we have scheduled to join us, but we recognize that our season may simply be impossible. Among other concerns, there would be no intermissions. The health and safety of all concerned is our top priority.

We value your opinion on this, and we hope you will take the time to complete the short survey at the link which follows.

Thank you very much for your support and your help in this very difficult time!

George Korn, President

As well as human visitors who come to the Florida Keys for rest and renewal, marine creatures in need come calling, too. Some arrive with health problems, while others are injured, orphaned or lost.
Throughout the island chain, ailing sea turtles, manatees, dolphins and whales encounter a willing and dedicated group of professionals and volunteers ready to lend a helping hand. Even during the global coronavirus crisis, the Keys' nature and wildlife rehabilitation centers have continued rescuing and rehabilitating wild creatures requiring care.
In recent months, a number of rehabilitated turtles and manatees have been released back into their ocean home off the Keys — including one rare turtle that's a contestant in an international ocean-going "race."

WE CONTINUE PART 5 OF 6 "ANIMAL MOMS"
Proud Parents
Parents are often proud of their children, despite their shortcomings. A baby doesn't have to grow up to be successful or even very intelligent to earn the love of their parents. Those in the animal kingdom are no different, as we can see pictured here. As these cats look over their offspring with pride, we can see their kittens busily slurping up their food without a care in the world, they're admiring their creations.
Dog Pile
All kids go through a stage of sleeping in their parent's beds. Whether they're having nightmares or simply prefer cuddling up to mom and dad, there's a point in every parent's life when their beds get too crowded. It's not just human parents who get woken up in the middle of the night by tiny feet digging into their ribs though. We all know dogs have no concept of personal space, but this dog mom is baring the weight of her pups. This may have been acceptable when her puppies were newborns, but now that they're all grown up it's probably time they slept in their own beds. There's no doubt that this dog mom will be feeling sore when she wakes up!
The Classic Pin
The classic cuddle and pin move is most commonly used among parents of antsy toddlers who just won't stay in bed. As a last resort, this technique involves holding the child tight enough so they can't escape your grip. Ultimately, the goal is to wear them out so that they eventually fall asleep. Looking at this gorilla spooning her offspring, it would appear that humans aren't the only species that get frustrated with their kids around bedtime. Far from being a new parenting trick, this gorilla seems to be using it to calm her rambunctious young. Likely she's desperate to get her child to sleep just so she can get some shut-eye.
This Dog Is Traumatized
Kids don't care how tired we are as parents. They don't understand that we've had a bad day at work, or simply woke up on the wrong side of the bed. When our kids want to play, they'll do just about anything to get our attention. If nothing else, kids certainly are persistent! This dog mom knows all about having a persistent child and has clearly been battling her pup's energy all day. Her weary yet traumatized facial expression is an obvious reaction to all of the stress her pup has put her through. The pup may think playtime is anytime they want, but they'll soon learn that mommy needs a nap every once in a while!
Like most toddlers, peacocks are lovely creatures to look at, but quickly lose their appeal when they start following you around. This particular peacock is leucistic, which is the condition described earlier that affects the pigment in animal skin, feathers, fur, and shells. That's why we can see the traditional colors on this peacock's feathers in addition to the absence of colors. Leucistic animals are so rare in the wild as it makes them easier targets for predators. While the absence of color may sound like it would allow animals to disguise themselves more easily, the opposite is actually true. The white patches tend to make them easy prey. Fortunately, these days leucistic animals are being rescued by organizations around the world who work to protect and care for them, allowing the public to get a glimpse of these beautiful creatures more often.
